Constructing a Biosphere

According to the Spore 2049 transmissions, the Terrarium will be built underneath the Mansueto Library. This building seems to consist of multiple rooms, one to sustain a human, and another to maintain plant life. The Terrarium of 2049 is an excellent example of a closed ecological system (CES), a human-made ecosystem that does not require an exchange with the outside world.
Fortunately for us, there are existing examples of closed ecological systems such as Biosphere 2, MELiSSA. For this climate quest, consider and answer the following questions:
- What are Biosphere 2 and MELiSSA?
- What types of experiments were ran there?
- What lessons should the Fourcast Lab take from Biosphere 2 and MELiSSA, to make Terrarium 2049 a reality?
- What technologies, policies, economic, social, and/or scientific ideologies should we consider?
